In the only Monday match of the English Premier League, London's Arsenal club suffered an unexpected defeat, losing 1-2 to the Wigan team fighting for survival in the league.
The match started very successfully for the visitors: 7 minutes into the game after a quick attack, Franco di Santo sent the ball into the net, and a few moments later Jordi Gomez doubled the result.
Although Arsenal managed to soften the score in the 21st minute, for the rest of the time Arsene Wenger's players wasted opportunity after opportunity and had to admit the opponents' superiority.
Wigan's second consecutive victory allowed them to rise to a safe 16th position in the standings, while Arsenal is in third place.
