One of Florentino Perez's favorites, Luka Modric, will soon receive a gift from the club, announces the newspaper AS.
The 33-year-old captain of the Croatian national team was previously linked with a move to Inter Milan last summer. "The Whites" categorically rejected plans to part ways with the safe midfielder, who is now expected to extend his cooperation for several more years.
Modric's current contract ends in 2020. Real Madrid wants to extend it for 1-2 more years and increase his salary by several million, currently at 7.5 million euros per year.
AS reports that both Real Madrid and Modric himself want his professional career to end at the "white" club.
Modric himself had previously mentioned this possibility: "The club has shown great love for me, so I would like to finish my career here. My family enjoys life in Madrid, and I am happy playing for such a club."
Last year, Modric, who has accumulated all individual awards, has been playing for Madrid since 2012.
Having been a key player all this time and contributing significantly to four Champions League titles, the Croatian has played a total of 287 matches and scored 16 goals.
