In China, the 2004 Asian Cup tournament reached its climax - yesterday the match for third place was played, in which Iran defeated Bahrain 4-2 and secured third place.

The battle for third place was quite eventful. In the 62nd minute, with the score tied at 2:2, Iranian player Borhani received a red card and was ejected from the field. Despite being outnumbered, the remaining Iranians did not falter and were able to demonstrate their superiority.
In the 94th minute, Iranian Mahdavikia and Bahraini Yusuf were also sent off the field with red cards for unsportsmanlike behavior. Mahdavikia became the fourth Iranian to receive a red card in this year's Asian Cup.
Today at 15:00 Lithuanian time, the Asian Cup final will be played, where the tournament host China will face defending champion Japan.
