The battle for third place was quite eventful. In the 62nd minute, with the score tied at 2:2, Iranian player Borhani received a red card and was ejected from the field. Despite being outnumbered, the remaining Iranians did not falter and were able to demonstrate their superiority.
In the 94th minute, Iranian Mahdavikia and Bahraini Yusuf were also sent off the field with red cards for unsportsmanlike behavior. Mahdavikia became the fourth Iranian to receive a red card in this year's Asian Cup.
