Unai Emery on Wednesday made it clear that Mesut Ozil is not in his future plans.
This season, the German player, who has often missed games due to various injuries, returned to the squad a few weeks ago and received some minutes, but was left out of the team's most important matches - such as the one against Tottenham in the quest for a place in the English League Cup semifinals.
After facing questions about this decision following the lost match, Emery clarified that it was a tactical choice. However, when asked if Ozil could leave the team in January, the coach refused to comment, stating that he still wants to see the player in his team.
"It was a tactical decision. I thought that other players were more suitable for those matches than he was," Emery said about the decision not to register Ozil for the match.
"We think about every player. We have 24 or 25 players in total, so one day some play, and another day others. It's the simplest decision-making process," the specialist continued.
Asked about the possibility of Ozil leaving the team in the January transfer window, Emery was brief: "All my attention is focused on analyzing these matches and preparing for the game against Burnley, which will be very important.
"We value every player. We will see how they look in tomorrow's training session and in the match against Burnley."
There are rumors in the media that a proposal from Istanbul's Fenerbahçe is ready for Mesut Ozil.
