„Aston Villa“ owner Randy Lerner has taken responsibility for the team's relegation from the league and reiterated that he wants to sell the team so it can return among the elite English clubs.
Despite the dismissal of two coaches this season, „Aston Villa“ almost finished in last place for the entire season, and after losing to „Manchester United“ last weekend, they lost even theoretical chances to stay in the league. After the club officially dropped to the second division, the American openly addressed the fans of the team.
„I can reveal that I have been trying to sell the team with good intentions since May 2014, and I want to hand over the club to better hands, but it has not happened yet. I write to all „Villa“ fans and want to emphasize that the relegation from the league falls on my shoulders and no one else's.“
„I will continue to try to hand over the club to good hands, and I will do everything in my power to have „Villa“ return to its place among the elite English clubs as soon as possible“, - said Lerner in his statement.
In 34 matches, „Aston Villa“ only collected 16 points and has already lost all hopes of climbing out of the last position in the standings.
