Randy Lerner, who owns Birmingham's "Aston Villa", wants to sell the club, but he is struggling to find a reliable buyer.
The current owner announced the sale of the "Premier" league team last month, stating that he "can no longer afford it".
"Aston Villa", which finished fifteenth last season, is valued between 150 million and 200 million pounds sterling.
Lerner, who bought "Villa" for 62.6 million pounds sterling in 2006, wants the club to fall into good hands, so he entrusted the club's sale to Merrill Lynch from "Bank of America".
According to football finance expert Peter Knowles, despite the struggle for survival in the last two seasons, "Aston Villa" remains an attractive offer to a potential buyer, as it is a major Premier League club with deep traditions.
While a buyer is found, Paul Lambert will remain the team's coach, and Paul Faulkner will remain the president.
Villa has already started a renewal. It recently signed contracts with Swiss defender Philippe Senderos and former England national team midfielder Joe Cole.
