On New Year's Eve, "Espanyol" scored two goals at the end of the match and beat "Valencia" away with a score of 2:1. The hosts struck first. Omar Albarete scored with a header in the 51st minute. "Valencia" held the lead until the 83rd minute. Hugo Duro committed a foul in his penalty area and the referee awarded a penalty kick. Not only that, the Spaniard was shown a red card and the hosts finished the match with ten men. The penalty was converted by "Espanyol" striker Raul de Tomas and the score became 1:1. However, the visiting team, not intending to decrease their efforts, scored a winning goal in the 88th minute. After a pass from Jofre, Javi Puado sent the ball into the goal with a technical shot, earning all three points for his team. "Valencia" had a great opportunity to equalize in stoppage time, but Ruben Iranzo's shot hit the crossbar. After the defeat, "Valencia" remains in 8th place in the table, while "Espanyol" moves up to the 9th position, trailing "the bats" by 2 points.
