The prosecutor of the state of Spain has stirred up the ice of the scandal of fixed matches and demanded the footballers to come for questioning - it will be investigated for suspicions that the 2011 Spanish "Primera" championship match between "Levante" and Saragosos "Real" was fixed, wrote guardian.co.uk.
Employees of the prosecutor's office in Madrid informed that they have started an investigation into the possibly fixed matches.
The suspected "Levante" and Saragosos "Real" matches were played in the 2010-2011 season. It was the last round of "Primera". Then the "Real" footballers defeated the "Levante" team 2:1 and remained in the top league.
Otherwise, Saragosos "Real" would have said goodbye to the "Primera" championship.
In June 2013, the president of the Spanish league, Javier Tebas, included the "Levante" and Saragosos "Real" matches in a special list, which in total includes nine "Primera" matches suspected of having a fixed result.
Saragosos "Real" club stated in a public statement that they do not know about any circumstances related to the ongoing investigation. The representative of "Levante" decided to remain silent.
This is the second time that "Levante" club matches have raised suspicions. In May 2013, the Spanish league started another investigation. This time, "Deportivo La Coruna" surprised "Levante" team with a 4-0 victory.
In Spain, match-fixing is considered a crime punishable by imprisonment for individuals. The club is at risk of being removed from the championship.
Currently, "Levante" is playing in the highest Spanish league, while Saragosos "Real" is in the second division.
