Before the Christmas weekend, the last three matches of the 2024 "TOPsport futsal A league" will be played, where the two strongest teams of this season ("Kauno Žalgiris" and "Bruklinas") will face off against each other, alongside the "VGTU Vilkai" and "Akmenės kraštas", as well as "Gargždų pramogos" and VIP, who are looking to break their losing streak.
In the central matchup at the Kaunas Sports Hall, "Kauno Žalgiris," having won nine out of nine possible matches this year, will take on the second-placed "Bruklinas" from Vilkaviškis. When these teams played in the first round in Vilkaviškis, the Kaunas team came away with a 6:3 victory. This time, the Žalgiris team will play without their head coach Dentinho, who has left for his homeland.
"As always, we can expect an exciting match. We will have to play our game, regardless of the absence of the head coach. If we start to make things up and play our own way, we will only harm ourselves," said "Kauno Žalgiris" captain Justinas Zagurskas.
"Bruklinas" has earned 24 points in ten matches. Before Christmas, this team can secure its position in second place with a victory or if "Gargždų pramogos" loses points.
"We can finish second even if we lose to 'Žalgiris', of course, if our rivals play favorably. However, if we want to secure second place, we must earn points even when playing against 'Žalgiris'. Although Christmas is around the corner, the opponent certainly isn't planning to give gifts to the Vilkaviškis players. And we would be able to create such a celebration for our fans only if we give our all (and with a bit of luck)," said Gintaras Čibirka from "Bruklinas."
The "Gargždų pramogų" footballers, vying for second place, will host representatives of Mažeikiai VIP in the twelfth round at home. In the first round, the Gargždai team defeated this rival 12:2 on the road. Will they manage to replicate that before the holidays?
About the VIP team, it can be briefly said that it is quite unpredictable and very fluctuating; in some matches they can perform really well and efficiently, but there are also times when it's the opposite. We are more focused on ourselves, adhering to our game plan, and we hope to come out victorious and in good spirits for the beautiful year's end celebrations," said Donatas Surblys, a veteran of "Gargždų pramogų."
In another match of the round, "VGTU Vilkai," currently sitting in seventh place, will face "Akmenės kraštas," occupying eighth. In the first round in Naujoji Akmenė, the hosts defeated their opponents only in the last seven minutes. Overall, in the first half, "VGTU Vilkai" led 2:0.
Unlike those well-played matches, "VGTU Vilkai" demonstrated significantly poorer performance in the last few days and lost their LFF Cup match against Vilnius "Aktas."
"It's hard to say which version of ourselves we will be. The match will show. That loss to 'Aktas' might turn out for the better, as it will force the players to realize that they need to put in more effort on the field. Our advantages? Perhaps counterattacks, set pieces," said Marijus Rimas, coach of "VGTU Vilkai."
