The absolute outsider of the Italian championship Bergamo "Atalanta", as expected, on Monday after the 14th round of matches experienced another defeat and sacked head coach Andrea Mandorlini.
On Sunday, "Atalanta" narrowly lost to the "Palermo" team, marking their seventh unsuccessful result of the season. In the other seven matches, the Bergamo team players played to a draw, and this season they have not experienced the joy of victory yet, lagging behind the penultimate place team "Siena" by four points.
The 44-year-old A. Mandorlini moved to "Atalanta" from "Vicenza" in 2003, and in his first season managed to bring the club back to "Serie A". Despite extending his contract until 2006 for this achievement, it was harder for him to succeed in the top division with a young and talented team.
Delio Rossi will most likely be invited to replace Mandorlini, who, despite a successful year with "Lecce" last year, left the latter club and remained unemployed.
