On Sunday afternoon in Lithuania, the XXXV round of matches of the "SMScredit.lt A League" took place, after which the new national champion has still not been determined.
At Pakruojis City Stadium, the home team "Kruoja" faced Klaipėda's "Atlantas" supported by their fans. At the end of the match, a goal by Marius Papšys secured a victory for the visitors, and the team from the port city continues to fight with Vilnius' "Žalgiris" for the first place.
The first half was not successful for either team. Both Pakruojis and Klaipėda had chances to score goals, but failed to do so and the fight shifted to the second half.
In the 54th minute, after a precise pass from Donatas Kazlauskas, the visitors from Klaipėda scored a goal, with Marius Papšys finding the net. However, the opponents' response was not long in coming, as Aliaksandras Tsishkevichius equalized the score just four minutes later.
The decisive goal was scored in the 79th minute when a player from "Atlantas" was fouled in "Kruoja's" penalty area. M. Papšys, the scorer of the first goal, stepped up to take the penalty kick, missed the first attempt, but scored the winning goal by rebounding the ball off the goalkeeper.
The intrigue continues in the A League. After this victory, the team led by a Russian coach lags behind "Žalgiris" by only three points. If Vilnius' team loses in the weekend matches and the Klaipėda team secures a victory, then both clubs will have to play additional matches against each other.
In other matches, Alytus' "Dainava" could not resist the league outsider Tauragė's "Tauras" and suffered a 1-3 defeat.
