"Atletico" appealed the three-match ban imposed on F. Luis

The Madrid team „Atletico“ does not agree with the decision to suspend the club's defender Filipe Luis for three matches.

The left-back was sent off the field in the weekend match against „Barcelona“, which „Atletico“ lost 1:2. Luis received a red card for a foul against „Barcelona“ leader Lionel Messi. After the match, the Catalan coach described this foul as shocking, and the Spanish Football Federation decided to suspend Luis for three matches for the dangerous move.

On Wednesday, „Atletico“ sports director Jose Luis Perezas Caminero stated that the decision is being appealed, arguing that similar actions should result in the same penalties.

„Similar actions should be judged equally and receive the same punishment. It cannot be that a similar action described in the referee's report results in a one-match suspension, while Filipe receives a three-match penalty,“

„Filipe Luis is a player with a great career record, not an aggressive player. He was trying to reach the ball in a 50-50 situation, touched the ball, and then collided with the opponent unable to stop. Everyone who plays football understands that there is no wrongdoing here and it cannot be judged differently. A three-match suspension should be applied for actions other than this,“ said Caminero on the club's website.

If the Spanish Football Federation decides to uphold this penalty, Luis will miss the matches against „Eibar“, „Getafe“, and „Villareal“ in the „La Liga“ championship.
