In the previous season of the Spanish championship, the Madrid club, which finished in 7th place, started to strengthen for the upcoming season. The first purchase of the club is expected to be the defender Luis Amaranto Perea from "Boca Juniors" in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
"Atletico" is expected to pay around 4 million euros (about 13.8 million litas) for this defender and it is believed that the player will sign a four-year contract with the Madrid club.
Amaranto is a member of the Colombian national team and is currently preparing with his country for the upcoming South American zone qualifying matches against Uruguay for the 2006 World Cup.
The Colombian joined "Boca Juniors" last year, but he failed to secure a place in the starting lineup. Before that, Amaranto spent three years at the "Independiente" club in Medellin, Colombia.
According to the media, the president of the Argentine club, Mauricio Macri, will travel to Spain next week to finalize the details of this player's transfer agreement.
