During Thursday evening's La Liga match, Madrid's Atletico defeated Elche with a score of 2-0 at home.
In the first half, the hosts had several opportunities to score, but failed to put the ball into the net. The guests struggled to glue the game together, and things were made even more difficult when Elche's midfielder received a red card in the 45+1 minute.
In the second half, Atletico also had to play with ten men after 53 minutes when defender Mario Hermoso received his second yellow card.
However, this did not stop Diego Simeone's players from scoring the first goal of the match in the 56th minute. Joao Felix found the net after a pass from Antoine Griezmann.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 74th minute, this time Alvaro Morata beating the opponent's goalkeeper.
After these matches, Atletico rises to third place in the league table. Meanwhile, Elche continues to languish at the bottom of the championship, having gathered only 4 points in 15 matches.
