The Madrid club officially apologized to the late Antonio Puerta's family for insulting chants by fans during the match against "Sevilla".

Puerta, who represented the Sevilla team, passed away in August 2007, three days after losing consciousness in a match against "Getafe".

The hearts of "Atletico" fans, it seems, were not softened by this story, as during the match in Madrid they chanted insults towards their opponents: "Oh, Puerta feels dizzy".

"We deeply regret the chants directed against Puerta," the statement says. "Our club is appalled by such actions, so we apologize to the late player's family, Sevilla, and the entire football world.

We aim for more respect in football and hope that such incidents will not be repeated here or anywhere else."
