Catalans would have needed to win the UEFA Champions League to qualify for this competition.
The last spot from European teams will be taken by Salzburg or Arsenal. The London team would also secure a spot only by winning the Champions League.
The Atletico club, which has made it to this tournament, will receive around 50 million euros.
