After a poor performance in the Confederations Cup tournament in Germany, the head coach of the Australian national football team, Frank Farina, resigned from his post.

Australia left the Confederations Cup after the group stage, where they failed to earn a single point in three matches. This result led the 40-year-old coach to leave his position as the head of the team, which he had held for six years.

Temporarily replacing F. Farina in the position of head coach of the Australian national team will be the team's technical director Ron Smith.
