Former London "Arsenal" and "Manchester City" sniper was one step away from moving to "Lyon" club. However, the French vice-champions decided at the last moment not to sign a contract with the Togolese national team member.
According to club president Jean-Michel Aulas, this decision was made by the coaching staff led by Bruno Genesio.
Instead of the 32-year-old veteran, nineteen-year-old "Chateauroux" footballer Jean-Philippe Mateta was chosen.
"We talked to two players," Aulas told Canal+. "Mateta was interested in both Juventus and other French clubs. Emmanuel Adebayor agreed to come but was two days late."
"Bruno and his staff made the decision. We freed up the money. As always, the final decision is made by the technical staff, and we followed this decision."
