Bernd Leno joined London's "Arsenal" last summer when he moved from the "Bayer" team.
Initially expected to become the main goalkeeper, the 26-year-old German spent more time on the bench at the beginning of the season, giving way to veteran Petr Čech.
As the season progressed, B. Leno secured his place in the "Gunners" starting lineup, and in an interview with "Sky Sports" he admitted that he simply needed time to adapt to the new environment.
"Of course, I am happy to be here. It took me some time to adjust to new teammates, a new league, country, and style of play. Football here is different from Germany.
The biggest differences are the speed and style of play. There's also more physicality allowed here, and referees don't whistle for every contact.
I like that, but it took time because in Germany you are always protected by the referee, but not here and I have to adjust to that," shared B. Leno.
The "Arsenal" goalkeeper also expressed his joy that after a tough start, he now feels at home in the club.
"This is my second professional club in my career. It was obvious that it would take some time to get used to, but now in this club I feel at home.
My teammates trust me, they all accept me as a person and believe in my abilities. This is incredibly important. I feel great in this team," said the German.
This season, B. Leno played 21 matches in the Premier League and kept his goal clean three times.
