"Liverpool" strategist Brendan Rodgers believes that Jordan Henderson is a suitable replacement for the outgoing captain Steven Gerrard at the end of this season.
The 34-year-old defender confirmed on Friday that he will not be renewing his contract with the club and is expected to move to the USA.
Henderson, although initially struggling to find his place in the team, is now demonstrating excellent form, and the coach is confident that the 24-year-old player can fill Gerrard's shoes.
"I think Jordan Henderson possesses all the qualities of a leader. That was one of the reasons why I appointed him as vice-captain. He has never had a better captain to learn from than Steven," said Rodgers.
"He has learned from him even before taking on these responsibilities, but of course, they provide an even better opportunity to learn how everything works both on and off the field."
"So, when the day comes for Steven to continue his career elsewhere, it is believed that we have a person with the same wisdom and knowledge in this position, even if he is a slightly different style player."
The team's coach also is not worried about needing to find reinforcements in the transfer market following the departure of the defender, as there are also many excellent players in the ranks of the 'Reds'. Rodgers focused mainly on Raheem Sterling and said that a world-class talent will grow from him.
