B. Rodgers: Sturridge is not yet a top-level forward

“Liverpool” strategist Brendan Rodgers believes that his injury-prone pupil Daniel Sturridge is not yet a top-class striker.

The England national team member has not represented the Liverpool team due to injury since the end of August. In September, Sturridge was already recovered, but during international breaks, the pain resurfaced.

“Liverpool” strongly feels his absence, as the €20 million worth Mario Balotelli has not scored any goals in the Premier League yet. In the match against Queens Park Rangers, the Italian did not hit the target. Rodgers believes that with Sturridge's return, the team will perform better.

“Top-level players have a great influence on the team,” the coach said. “When you are in a difficult situation, you know you have forwards who can create a goal out of nothing. That is a big weapon.”

“Sturridge is one of those players. That's what we want to turn him into. However, he will not become one of the best strikers in Europe until he starts playing regularly. The potential is there. It needs to be realized.”

“When he returns, you will see confidence in his movements. However, he has not been physically ready for a long time.”
