„Liverpool“ strategist Brendan Rodgers expressed his desire to keep Glen Johnson and Lucas Leiva in his team despite recent rumors of their departure.
Johnson, who plays in a defender position, will see his contract with the club expire this summer and has already attracted interest from „Roma“, while Milan’s „Inter“ is eyeing “The Reds” secure Lucas.
However, the team manager says that both players from Merseyside are needed.
„We can’t afford to let three or four footballers leave next season. We will try to keep them all,“ Rodgers told goal.com.
„Steven [Gerrard] will be a huge loss - losing such a personality and player would weaken any club. Nevertheless, we need to move on,“ he added.
„In order for younger players to develop, the team must also have more experienced people. We can’t rely solely on youngsters,“ he continued.
„We want to keep both Johnson and Lucas,“ he concluded.
The manager also stated that he sees no reason for Glen Johnson not to extend his contract with „Liverpool“ and expressed hope that the Englishman will remain at the club after the current season."
