At yesterday evening's France Football ceremony, Lionel Messi won the "Ballon d'Or" award for the seventh time in his career. Traditionally, the voting results were revealed after some time. Lionel Messi received 613 voting points, R. Lewandowski - 580. Chelsea defender Jorginho came in third with 460 points. Robert Lewandowski was 33 points behind Lionel Messi for the first place. Jorginho was 120 points behind R. Lewandowski and 153 points behind the Argentine. The gap between the top three is the smallest since 2016 when FIFA separated from this award and everything started to be counted in points. However, only in 2019, the difference between the first and second place was smaller, when Lionel Messi triumphed with 686 points and Virgil van Dijk finished second with 679 points. In the 2021 Ballon d'Or voting, Karim Benzema, N'Golo Kante, Mohamed Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo were left out of the top three, and Erling Haaland was outside the top ten. 33 votes separated Lionel Messi and Robert Lewandowski in the Ballon d'Or voting...#BallonDor pic.twitter.com/P5XK4kXAOb - Football on BT Sport (@btsportfootball) November 29, 2021
