On Sunday, the battles of the first round of the Spanish "La Liga" championship continued. Barcelona secured a confident victory at home, defeating the Real Sociedad team with a score of 4:2. "Barca" took the lead at home in the 19th minute, when Gerard Piqué scored. The hosts extended their advantage with two goals from Martin Braithwaite, who scored during added time of the first half and in the 59th minute. "Real Sociedad" did not give up and in the 82nd minute, Julen Lobete Cienfuegos scored, and just three minutes later, Mikel Oyarzabal reduced "Barca's" lead to a minimum. However, the Catalans remained strong and added another goal in extra time through Sergi Roberto.
The reigning country champions, Madrid's Atletico footballers, also started the season off triumphantly, defeating the Celta Vigo team away with a score of 2:1. Angel Correa put the Spanish champions ahead in the 23rd minute, but Iago Aspas equalized in the 59th minute with a penalty kick. Atletico extended their lead in the 64th minute with a double from A. Correa.
