nexpected results were recorded in the 33rd round of matches in the Spanish championship played on Sunday: this year the unimpressive "Real Sociedad" defeated the Seville "Betis" 2-3 away in the fight for a place in next year's Champions League, while La Coruna "Deportivo" crushed "Racing Santander" at home. The league leaders "Barcelona" defeated "Malaga" away and restored the six-point lead they had against second-placed "Real" before the round.

A breathtaking duel took place in Seville, where "Betis", after conceding a goal at the end of the match, had to admit defeat against "Real Sociedad" who were in the second half of the tournament table. It is worth mentioning that the San Sebastian team has been playing for a couple of months without the team leader Nihat due to a serious injury, but this did not prevent them from winning against the ambitious Seville club.

An unexpected result was recorded at the "El Riazor" stadium in La Coruna, where "Deportivo" suffered a crushing 4-1 defeat at home against Santander "Racing", with Israeli striker Yossi Benayoun shining on their ranks, scoring three goals. Several English football clubs have shown interest in this player for some time now, so undoubtedly this player's show will spark talks about a possible move to a stronger club.

Last year's Spanish champion and UEFA Cup winner "Valencia" secured an important victory at home, defeating "Albacete" 2-0. The hosts had a clear advantage, but it was only in the 70th minute that they managed to score a goal, with Mista scoring after Pablo Aimar's pass. Later, the same Mista gave a goal-scoring pass to Migueli Angulo, who doubled the result.

Barcelona's "Espanyol" celebrated an important victory at home, defeating "Zaragoza" 3-1 and strengthening their position in the fight for a place in next year's UEFA Champions League.

Hector Cuper's "Mallorca" won against "Numancia" away, but the gap between them and the 17th place, which guarantees survival in "La Liga", with Valencia's "Levante" is seven points.

In the last round of matches on Sunday, "Barcelona" easily defeated "Malaga" players 4-0 away. The first goal was scored in the 21st minute by Oleguer after Deco's pass from the penalty box center, and soon after Ludovic Giuly doubled the result with a header after Ronaldinho's pass. The same Giuly also scored the third goal for the Catalan super club - in the middle of the second half, he shot from the right corner of the penalty box, defeating the "Malaga" goalkeeper. The result was even more impressive at the very end of the match when Gerard knocked the ball into the goal with his head, lifted by Giovanni van Bronckhorst.

In the last round of matches, "Sevilla" easily defeated the Bilbao "Athletic" team 3-1 away. The winning goals were scored by Brazilian Julio Baptista, who is wanted by Madrid's "Real". After this victory, "Sevilla" climbed to third place in "La Liga", but the club could drop to fourth, as "Villarreal" below has played one less match.
