Two years ago, "Barcelona," which acquired the forward Robert Lewandowski from Munich's "Bayern," almost suffered a significant loss.
As "Cadena SER" now reports, while negotiations were still ongoing for the player's transfer, the Catalans received a letter from the sniper's agent, Pini Zahavi, urging the "La Liga" team to transfer one million euros to an account in a bank in Cyprus as soon as possible.
"Barca" had no suspicions and the club quickly complied with this request.
However, it later became clear that ingenious fraudsters were operating there, but vigilant bank employees managed to stop them.
The Cypriots became suspicious when a large sum of money began appearing in a recently opened account, and they contacted "Barca."
As the Catalans regained their composure, they requested an immediate refund of the money, and they were lucky – the amount was still in the account, and there were no significant issues transferring it back later.
Foreign media note that it is not surprising to hear about the club's financial problems now if such irresponsible behavior is exhibited with million-euro transfers.
