"Barcelona" appeal accepted - Lionel Messi's yellow card lifted

The Appeals Committee of the Spanish Championship overturned the yellow card shown to "Barcelona" leader Lionel Messi in the match against "Valencia". Warning was given to the Argentine at the end of the match, when he was celebrating a winning goal scored by Sergio Busquets with his teammates. At the same time, a plastic water bottle thrown by a "Valencia" fan from the stands hit the footballer from the Catalan club. L. Messi reported this to the match referee David Fernandez Borbalan, but the referee's reaction surprised many journalists and commentators - the forward himself received a yellow card. The referee interpreted this as time-wasting. By the way, in this match, the "Barcelona" leader wore the captain's armband, so he had the right to speak to the referee and report the incident. The Catalan team submitted an appeal, as required by the tournament regulations, first to the Competition Committee of the Spanish Championship, but it was rejected. Then "Barcelona" submitted a second appeal to the Appeals Committee of the Spanish Championship. The latter upheld the Catalan's appeal. "There is no reason to believe that the Barcelona player somehow deliberately delayed the match. His reaction is adequate and completely natural in such a situation where objects thrown from the stands cause harm," says the final decision of the Appeals Committee. "Valencia" club released an official statement promising to find and punish the hooligan who threw the bottle. It is said that he will be banned from attending matches at the "Mestalla" stadium.
