"Barcelona" appeal rejected - the club will not be able to buy players in 2015

CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) rejected Barcelona's appeal to overturn the penalty, which prohibits the Catalans from buying players in 2015.

Earlier, FIFA had imposed a penalty on Barca for illegally acquiring underage footballers. As a result of this violation, Barcelona was banned from purchasing new players in 2015.

"CAS rejected Barcelona's appeal against the FIFA verdict, which was issued on September 19 of this year," the CAS statement said.

"An expert group found that Barcelona violated the rules regarding the registration of underage players attending the club's academy. FIFA provided detailed information and the sanctions remain valid," the official statement added.

Interestingly, Barcelona faced this penalty as early as 2014, but the final decision was delayed due to various appeals. Taking advantage of this situation, the Catalan club signed Luis Suarez, Ivan Rakitic, Jeremy Mathieu, Thomas Vermaelen, and several other players in the summer.

From now on, the FIFA decision is final and Barcelona will only be able to buy players during the January 2016 transfer window.
