Former Barcelona club member Neymar will have to empty his wallet instead of a larger sum in the bank, according to lrytas.lt. The court decided on Friday that the footballer must pay the Barcelona team 6.7 million euros in legal expenses. The Brazilian footballer sought to claim as much as 43.6 million euros as a bonus for playing for the Catalan club, but the court decided that the Brazilian footballer himself must pay the club.
"The court decision rejects the player's entire claim to pay 43.6 million euros and grants almost the entire portion of the Barcelona claim - 6.7 million euros to the club," the official statement said. Neymar can still appeal this decision to a higher court.
Now playing for Paris Saint Germain, Neymar filed a lawsuit back in 2017, claiming that Barcelona refused to pay bonuses included in his 2016 contract. However, he was sold to the French club a year later. The Catalan team maintained the position that leaving the team terminated the contract.
However, Neymar and his agent father tried to prove that this was a form of blackmail, as unofficially the club allegedly assured that it would pay the bonuses even if the player left.
