The 53-year-old Spaniard had been serving as the sports director of Barcelona since 2010. However, A. Zubizarreta was never popular with the Catalan fans because he completely lacked the ability to choose transfers in the market and was responsible for several very careless transfers.

The former goalkeeper has also worn the "Blaugrana" jersey as a football player. From 1986 to 1994, he played in more than 400 matches.
