Barcelona gives green light to Camp Nou renovation

"Barcelona" finally received approval to renovate the "Camp Nou" stadium and its surroundings. The project called "Espai Barca" has been planned for several years, but the favorable decision of the Barcelona City Council has only been received now. It is expected that the works will begin in the summer. "This is a very special day and this is a historic project, the proposal of which, to which everyone agrees, we have been discussing for several years. Today we can announce that we have reached an agreement on the transformation of "Espai Barca," said Barcelona Mayor Ada Colau. "FC Barcelona" and the city of Barcelona maintain inseparable relationships. Reaching this agreement was very important." The entire project will be implemented without any expenses from the Barcelona City Council - the entire cost will be covered by "Barca." Spain's top division leaders will not have to leave "Camp Nou" during the renovations - mostly cosmetic changes will be made to the stadium. The most important of them - a retractable roof. Two more arenas will be built near "Camp Nou," one of which, costing 90 million euros, will be the home of "Barca's" basketball, handball, indoor soccer, and futsal teams. It will accommodate at least 12,000 fans. A little further away will rise a 6,000-seat "Estadi Johan Cruyff" where "Barcelona B" team will compete.
