The representatives of the Catalan club responsible for assembling the team should soon sit down at the negotiating table with one of the team's most important player agents, says the newspaper "Sport".
"Barcelona" plans to offer a new contract to the midfielder Xavi Hernandez. The current contract of the 32-year-old footballer is valid until the summer of 2014, but it is undisputed that the team's leaders and coaches would like to continue seeing Xavi in "Barca", so an additional contract is being offered to him. It would be valid until June 30, 2016.
This was officially announced to journalists by Ivan Corretja, who represents Xavi's interests. According to the agent, the official offer from "Barcelona" to start negotiations reached him last Friday.
"Of course, we accepted this offer. Xavi has never hidden his desire to continue playing in "Barca". He would like to finish his career here," said I. Corretja.
The agent once again reminded that all negotiations regarding previous contract extensions went smoothly and without any obstacles, so there is no doubt that both parties will reach an agreement.
"The relationship between the player and the club leaders has always been excellent. We easily agreed on extensions of previous contracts. The most important thing is that the player himself feels that he is needed by the team, so I don't think there will be any misunderstandings or problems when negotiating the signing of a new contract," noted the Catalan representative.
Xavi started his career in the Barcelona youth academy at just eleven years old, and made his debut in the main team in 1998. At that time, the Catalan club was led by the Dutchman Louis van Gaal.
