After a secret player vote, it was revealed that Carles Puyol will be replaced by the most experienced "Barcelona" youth academy graduate defender Xavi Hernandez as the new captain in the upcoming season.
As predicted, the first vice-captain became Andres Iniesta, while the second and third vice-captains are "newcomers". They are Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets.
Xavi, who will start his 18th season at "Barcelona" club, has played 723 matches and scored 83 goals throughout his professional career in the main team.
Elections were necessary when after the 2013-2014 season, long-time captain Carles Puyol bid farewell to "Barca", and goalkeeper Victor Valdes, who had served as the second vice-captain, refused to extend his contract with the club.
