On Saturday evening, the "Barcelona" presidential elections were won by Josep Maria Bartomeu. With 54.63% of the votes, he surpassed Joan Laporta, who came in second with 33.03% of the votes.
At the age of 52, Bartomeu, who has been leading since Sandro Rosell resigned in 2014, listed one of the club's main goals as maintaining the sponsorship deal with "Qatar Airways," although this received mixed reviews.
Of the four candidates, he was the only one to hold this opinion - the other three wanted to find a new main sponsor despite the fact that the Qatari airline brought the club 50 million euros per season.
Although in recent years the Catalan team, who achieved a treble, has been very successful, Bartomeu has been controversially judged since he was involved in a scandal with Rosell in the signing of Neymar and contracts with underage players, which ultimately led to a ban on new player registrations.
It seems that what was most important to the voters was the current president's relationship with coach Luis Enrique, as other candidates promised to acquire players that the coach himself did not see the need for in the team.
