"Josep Maria Bartomeu, who holds the position of president at "Barcelona," claims that the club will carefully monitor the situation in the player market, as they are seriously considering strengthening their defense.
At the moment, "Barcelona" is missing two defenders - Samuel Umtiti and Thomas Vermaelen. Without injuries, there are only two remaining defenders - Gerard Pique and Clement Lenglet. The latter was acquired by the Catalan team last summer, but so far his performances have not been very convincing.
J. Bartomeu did not specify whether reinforcements will be sought this winter, but the talk about injuries suggests that this may be the case.
"We will monitor the situation with central defenders in the market," said the Spaniard. "We have not been lucky, as out of four defenders we only have two healthy ones."
"Of course, there are some players from the B team. This could be a great opportunity for them to establish themselves in the main team. We have to wait and see what happens next," added J. Bartomeu.
In the media, defenders such as Matthijs De Ligt, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Toby Alderweireld have been linked with "Barcelona."
