For a long time, there has been discussion in the press about the 29-year-old Argentine's contract with "Barcelona". L. Messi has a contract until 2018, so the Catalans had to intensively start working with the footballer's representatives on a new contract.
"The contract renewal is very close and we hope to announce it as soon as possible," J. Vives told "Sport" newspaper.
The team representative was also asked when the club plans to announce the new coach, as Luis Enrique will be leaving the head coach position after the season.
"We are not in a rush to announce the new coach, as we are currently in a crucial stage of the season. We want the team to feel full support from us and not have to think about the new coach," added J. Vives.
