Having spent his entire career in the ranks of "Barcelona," Lionel Messi is likely to not change clubs in the near future.
In 2017, the Argentine signed a new contract with the Catalan team, which is valid until 2021. However, "Barca" president Josep Maria Bartomeu is not waiting and admitted that in the near future he will sit down with L. Messi at the negotiating table for a new contract.
"We want to renew the contract with L. Messi - that's our idea. He still remains young, if we talk about the game he demonstrates, and he has two more years left in his current contract.
Messi continues to improve and add new elements to his game. I believe that there are many more seasons ahead in his career. In the coming months, we will sit down at the negotiating table so that those seasons are spent in the ranks of "Barcelona."
"Messi is a one-club man. It's much more than just his playing on the field. Messi's connection with the fans of 'Barca' is eternal," Bartomeu told ESPN.
The 31-year-old L. Messi continues to demonstrate an impressive game this season. In 39 matches with "Barcelona," he has already scored 42 goals.
