Barcelona club veteran Carles Puyol assures that despite his injuries, he does not plan to "hang up his boots" this summer and wants to extend his contract with the Catalan team.
At the end of last season, the Spaniard was forced to undergo surgery on his right knee for the fourth time, sparking talks of a possible retirement from the world of football.
"I will not end my career. I will stay here until the end of my contract and, if possible, extend it," Puyol told "El Mundo Deportivo".
"I am slowly recovering after the operation. This one was different - the postoperative period was painful, but the healing process is faster. I hope to return to training from the first day. Maybe I will start not with the team, but individually," the Spaniard said.
However, the defender admitted that he is likely to end his career with the Spanish national team, where he has played 99 matches.
Puyol spent his entire career at Barcelona. He started playing for the first team in 1999 and has played 533 matches.
