Bayern Munich has found a new sporting director in former club player Hasan Salihamidžić.
As a Bosnian player, Salihamidžić won six Bundesliga titles with Bayern and will now take on a role beyond the field.
The German champions have been without a sporting director for a year since Matthias Sammer stepped down due to poor health.
Hasan is a man who knows Bayern, who worked here as a professional," said the club's executive director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge at a press conference. "He works incredibly hard, always giving 100%."
"He has not signed the contract yet, but it will be valid until 2020."
"He will be responsible for football, he will be the link between the coach and the team, the coach and the club, the scouts, the youth academy."
It was expected that retired Bayern captain Philipp Lahm would take on this role, but the defender decided to rest.
Interestingly, coach Carlo Ancelotti did not seem very excited about the new staff addition.
"I don't think anything was missing last season, but the club believed a new sporting director was needed. He is definitely welcome," said the Italian.
