Chairman of Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, refused to confirm that the Bavarians would take advantage of the opportunity to buy out James Rodriguez's contract, but also did not indicate that it is a priority for Bayern.
Lately, there has been a lot of talk in the media about the Colombian's future in Munich. He is currently recovering from an injury and is expected to return to the field only at the beginning of next year, but throughout this season J. Rodriguez has failed to secure a place in the starting lineup.
Bayern has borrowed the midfielder from Real Madrid for two seasons. In the summer of 2019, the Germans have the option to buy him out for 42 million euros, but rumors have started to spread that the player himself does not want to stay in Munich and would prefer to return to Madrid.
"The agreement states that we can purchase J. Rodriguez by June 15, 2019. It is now November, so I don't see a reason why we should be talking about it," Rummenigge said.
"I believe that James played excellent football last season. As far as I remember, he was the best player in our team. In the match against Real, he scored a goal and even the Madrid fans applauded him," added the German.
