On Tuesday, Bayern Munich club unexpectedly officially announced the acquisition of new players. The Bavarians, who withdrew from the UEFA Champions League, announced on the club's website that they had reached agreements with one of Europe's most talented defenders Renato Sanches and Borussia Dortmund's center-back Mats Hummels.
First, Bayern announced the acquisition of 18-year-old Benfica defender. There were rumors in the media for a long time that the most likely candidate to attract the footballer was Manchester United, but Bayern unexpectedly outcompeted other clubs and acquired one of the most talented young footballers.
R. Sanches had a great season with Benfica. It was reported in the press that after a brilliant season, the Portuguese would cost clubs at least 60 million euros. However, Bayern managed to agree with the Lisbon team on a sum of 35 million euros, which depending on the player's personal performance could grow by another 45 million euros.
The 18-year-old footballer will go to the 2016 European Championship with the Portugal national team this summer. The Portuguese himself signed a five-year contract with Bayern.
In total, R. Sanches played 44 matches for Benfica this season and scored five goals. The talented defender will officially strengthen the Bavarian team on June 30.
Bayern decided to announce on the same day about the completed negotiations with Borussia Dortmund regarding the transfer of center-back Mats Hummels to the German champions.
The possible transfer of M. Hummels to Bayern had been known for some time. BVB announced on their official website that the 27-year-old defender decided to leave the team and join the Bavarians. The German himself denied these reports, but today's reports were confirmed.
M. Hummels' contract with Borussia was set to expire in the summer of 2017. However, Bayern did not disclose the transfer fee, but announced that a contract with the German national team member was signed until 2021.
The player officially told the BVB website: "Making the decision after eight and a half years of playing in this club was certainly not easy. I will always be proud to have worn this club's jersey."
M. Hummels is a product of Bayern's club. However, in the summer of 2008, the German had the opportunity to join the Dortmund team and played there until now. In total, the defender played 303 matches and twice became a national champion with the black and yellow team.
