Before the start of the European Football Championship on June 14, the BBC experts had their say.

Experts agreed that this year England should finally break the curse that has lasted for many years.

Alan Shearer: "The English can go all the way. This is the best opportunity we haven't had in a long time. If we still don't succeed, then I would bet on the French. Their team is full of talent and experience, so it will be tough to beat them."

Wayne Rooney: "The English should aim for first place already. I also have a feeling about the Portuguese, whose team is capable and has individually strong players."

Thomas Hitzlsperger: "At the top of the list is always France, this team must be the favorite. Of course, in the group of contenders, I also see the English and the Portuguese, on the other hand, every German fan thinks that their favorites should triumph playing at home."

Izzy Christiansen: "Of course, it has to be England, finally! After reaching the final in the last championship, the next step must be taken, as the 'Lionesses' did in 2022."

Joe Hart: "It's England's time."

Martin Keown: "France or England. I wouldn't want to put pressure on the English, but France is an incredible team as well."

Micah Richards: "The English will march straight to the final, but if they don't win it, I would bet on the French."
