BBC football expert John Hartson says that London's "Chelsea" captain John Terry will have to come to terms with the fact that under Jose Mourinho he will no longer be the main figure of the club.
The 34-year-old veteran was unexpectedly replaced just after the first half in the 0:3 loss versus "Manchester City" on Sunday.
"It is likely that Jose feels that Terry's age is catching up with him and in the future he will not be able to play such an important role," Hartson told BBC Sport.
"He is no longer able to give Chelsea as much as he did two or three years ago."
Mourinho's decision to replace Terry for the first time after 176 games can be interpreted as a message to the club owner Roman Abramovich, indicating that changes are needed in the lineup.
However, former Wales national team striker Hartson disagrees with this opinion.
"I think John still has a lot to offer Chelsea, but I disagree with experts who claim that Jose replacing him wanted to show that the team needs strengthening," added the pundit.
