The situation of the teams in terms of trophies differs - "Atletico" won this tournament two years ago, and the lack of Basque titles has been long-standing.
Of course, Bielsa's arrival and successful work inspire a lot of hopes that such a situation will not last long.
Unfortunately, we may have to wait until next year. No one can argue that Bielsa is quite a brilliant tactician who knows how to make players play better than they sometimes probably can imagine. Simeone as a tactician is weaker, but a fantastic motivator and psychologist. "Athletic" has long shown that this tournament is very important for them, and the leaders in Primera often take a break. Therefore, recently, not only have the results been modest, but the game has noticeably deteriorated.
Of course, we can expect Bielsa to surprise again, but the situation is such that "Atletico" is entering the crucial part of the season in excellent form. Simeone's strategy not to let go of the Primera for the sake of a chance in Europe works perfectly - not only to maintain the chance to return to the Champions League, but also achieved excellent form. It may be that the end of the season will be impressive - 4th place and trophies.
In any case, Simeone has done a great job, so perhaps on Wednesday we will already see the fruits of his labor."
