The Polish press on Thursday quotes national team defender Jacek Baka, who said he received an offer to "arrange" a match with Belgium in the qualifiers for the 2008 World Cup.
"I received a phone call offering to arrange a match, after we won 1-0," the Pole was quoted as saying. - I don't want to say anything more about it."
The tabloid newspaper "Fakt" in Poland, without naming specific sources, claimed that J. Baka was offered 10,000 euros to "earn" an own goal for Poland.
The investigation of this incident was initiated by both the Belgian football federation and the main European football body UEFA. It is said that UEFA requested the investigation to be carried out by the Belgian football federation.
After Wednesday's victory, Poland with 10 points in Group A is in third place. Leader Finland has 11 points, while Belgium with seven points is in fifth place.
