The "Brugge" team defeated "Beveren" 4-2 and won the Belgian Cup for the ninth time in the club's history. Strangely enough, all six goals were scored by "Brugge" players themselves.
For champion goalkeeper Dany Verlinden, these were farewell matches. This 40-year-old goalkeeper ended his career as a professional footballer after these matches.
Although it may seem that the victory was achieved easily, it is far from that. "Brugge" players took the lead first, but soon after a mix-up in their own field, goalkeeper Verlinden managed to score an own goal. The events unfolded similarly. The result became 2-1 in favor of "Brugge". Soon after the goal, they scored an own goal again, making it 2-2. And only towards the end of the match, "Brugge" scored two more times and buried "Beveren's" hopes of winning the cup.
This cup victory makes the "Brugge" club the record holder, as they have now won this title for the ninth time. Meanwhile, the "Anderlecht" team has won this trophy eight times.
