After the 3rd round of the Baltic Football League C group matches, in which Liepaja's "Metalurgs" beat Vilnius "Žalgiris" 3-1, the coach of the Latvian vice-champions Benjamin Zelkevičius said that his team could have won by a bigger margin.
Already in the 23rd minute of the match, where "Metalurgs" had a significant advantage, the goal was scored by Lithuanian goalkeeper Mindaugas Kalonas, receiving a precise pass after a penalty kick from Girts Karlsons. Later, Darius Miceika also scored, but did it with his hands and received a yellow card.
In the second half, Latvian national team forward Girts Karlsons added two more goals, using precise passes from Solonicin and Karlsons. The match, watched by about 1500 spectators, ended with Igor Morino's precise shot from the penalty spot and Žalgiris' defeat 1-3.
"We played quite well. The result matches the game. However, we could have won by an even bigger margin on our home pitch. I think the spectators must have been satisfied with this match," said "Metalurgs" coach Lithuanian Benjamin Zelkevičius after the victory.
In these matches, the Liepaja team debuted two legionnaires from South America - Cristiano Torres and Antonio Fereida. Assessing these footballers, B. Zelkevičius said: "Regarding C. Torres, I have to say that he needs time to adapt to the team and achieve the current form of our players, whereas from A. Fereida I expect a lot - for now, he is very useful for our team."
It should be noted that before these matches, "Metalurgs" released Paraguayan Macuke and Brazilian Kaetenu.
Meanwhile, after the defeat, the president and coach of Liepaja club "Žalgiris" Arminas Narbekovas once again had little communication with the media and stated that these matches were the worst for his team so far in the season that has just begun.
