Real Madrid's coach Carlo Ancelotti revealed that the club decided to sell Angel Di Maria this summer because he demanded too high of a salary.
The versatile midfielder was one of the team leaders last season when the "royal club" triumphed for the tenth time in the UEFA Champions League.
However, failing to agree on a new contract, the Argentine moved to Manchester United for 75 million euros in the offseason.
"Di Maria demanded a lot of money and decided to leave and earn them elsewhere. The club simply could not pay him as much as he wanted," Ancelotti told Cadena Cope.
"Sometimes you have to say no. The club cannot change its policy because of one player."
Ancelotti also stated that, although he has coached Ibrahimovic and Zidane in his career, Cristiano Ronaldo is the best among his pupils.
The Italian also discussed the 80 million euro transfer of Colombian James Rodriguez, saying that the player who shone in the World Cup is worth that money.
