Cesc Fabregas has not played for the Spanish national team since Vicente del Bosque was replaced by Julen Lopetegui as the head coach, but he still has hopes of going to the World Cup.
The 30-year-old footballer has played a total of 110 matches for the national team during his career, which is the eighth best result of all time. He first represented his country in the 2006 World Cup when he was just 18 years old.
The London Chelsea player also contributed to Spain's triumph in Europe in 2008 and 2012, and was part of the squad that won the World Cup in 2010.
"I am not the type of player to give up. I have a little hope, but I know it is difficult (to receive a call-up to the World Cup)," Fabregas told Goal.com. "I haven't received any calls and have not been included in any team's roster during this time."
"Despite everything, I don't think about it because I am focused on my performances here (at Chelsea). But it wouldn't be strange to get a call, considering I first joined the team at the age of 15. It's obvious that they already know me, but it would be great to be there."
"Now I am focusing on my club, because if you don't behave correctly in your club, it's impossible to receive a call. If I receive one, it will be perfect. If not, I will support the team from home."
Playing as a central midfielder, Fabregas will have to compete with stars like David Silva, Andres Iniesta, and Thiago Alcantara, while players like Saul Niguez and Asier Illarramendi also want to go to Russia.
