C. Fabregas: Russia's Plan Was to Receive Penalties and Pray

Failed to qualify for the World Cup, Cesc Fabregas was among the many people surprised by the defeat of the Spanish national team to Russia.

The 2010 world champions could not beat the tournament hosts in regular time and eventually fell after an 11-meter penalty shootout.

This means that another favorite will have to go home - Fernando Hierro's proteges will join the group of eliminated Germans and the already packed bags of Argentine footballers.

"I have no words because today I expected different kind of match", - Fabregas spoke on the "BBC" channel.

"I think Spain is a much better team than Russia."

"Russia had a plan, which was to reach penalties and pray, and it paid off for them."

Now the World Cup hosts will have to wait for the opponent from the pair of Croatia and Denmark.
